Sigri! A journey into the traditional Greece!

People often search for the typical Greek lifestyle. But they often can't find what they are looking for anymore. Because there are not a lot of places where you don't need to pay for your sun loungers and your sun shadow. Luckily, it is the other way round in Lesvos. Because you still have lots of space to stroll along the beach or simply to lie on the beach without paying for it. So if you have arrived at the beach of Sigri and marvel at the wonderful view you definitely know that it was worth the journey.

Lesbos is the third biggest island and only 9 km away from the Turkish continent. And of course there is still no mass tourism. Sigri is rather famous for the lovely relaxed atmosphere. There aren't any gigantic hotels. No!! Instead of that you can find very nice pensions and hotels with a personal touch.

Moreover, there are a great amount of olive trees and lots of long coastlines, which make Sigri one of a kind. In the south of the island you can find lots of lonely sandy beaches. On the west of Lesvos there are lots of cliffs, rocks and the famous perified forest.

 

Sigri is directly situated in the wind zone and both winds (the north and the south wind) blow through the village. This is the reason why Sigri is still quiet and not very touristy. So Sigri has got an unbelievable good wind statistic and this makes it to a perfect place for surfers and kitesurfers! The Meltemi is in the north-east part of the Ägäis stronger than in the other parts of the regions. The wind comes directly from the black sea and blows over the flat water. The Meltemi gets stronger because of the mountains and due to the thermal. Last but not least Sigri  offers you 5 different kinds of spots in an area of 5 km.

 

The main spot is Sigri bay, there you can find flat water and waves. The waves occur because of the opening between the island and Sigri. If the wind is strong enough this opening is a great place for surfers who are fond of waves! It is possible to surf to this opening directly from our center. On the second spot, Faneromeni beach, there is side-on shore wind and also nice chops to jump. Limea 1 and Limea 2 are quite similar. There is flat water and further outside there are chops. The fifth spot can be compared with Pozo but the wind comes from the right side.

Conection:

There are two flights per day from Athens to Mytilini (Capital City of Lesvos). The ferry from Thessaloniki (Blue Star Diagoras) arrives in Sigri harbour every Saturday and travels to the island Chios - Samos -Kalymnos - Kos - Rhodos. Infrastructure:

Sigri offers the holidaymakers a very nice hotel with a big outdoor pool and seven apartments. They range in price from very cheap to very expensive. All accommodations are very close to the surf spot. If you prefer self-catering you can find two small supermarkets, a bakery and a vegetable van in the village. Moreover, there are seven delicious restaurants. These entire restaurants cook with fresh ingredients and fish. Last but not least there are also two bars for party animals!

Surf Center:
